Movement and such...

I was talking to one of my dancer friends who was staying with us recently, (whose visit provided some small moments for my new play, allowing the characters to be put in rooms together and have actions other than "eating," which is, oddly enough, a common occurence in my plays... What was I talking about?) OH! So, a friend of ours was staying with us while in town for some rehearsals for this ballet that opens in two weeks, and she was very honest in telling me that she didn't like the play title "Contact/Space." She thought "Partnering" was a much better title. And that "Wine and Cheese and Sex" was better than "Contact/Space" as well... I hate titles. Titles are the bane of my existence.

In other news, I have twenty pages of the play typed. To work for NaPlWriMo, the play has to be at least 75 pages, which means about ten pages for each day this week to meet the page limit. I know I can do it, I just have to actually write the play. I've written the end of act 1 and the end of the play (a new experience for me, endings are always difficult).

I lost one of my characters today. I gave her lines to another character and made her action happen before the play even starts. It's her character, in a strange way, that ignites the real dramatic drive of the play. I allowed the thing that I didn't want the play to be about-- the confrontation of lovers after an affair-- be the exact thing that propels the play forward. Odd. Yes. Odd. So, with a wonderful first image, I'm moving forward with this little play that gets more and more interesting the more time I spend in its little world.
